About the author

Gail Braccidiferro MacDonald has focused much of her journalism career to bringing to light little-known stories of fascinating and significant people, events and places, both past and present.

As a newspaper and magazine journalist, she has won awards for stories about the lack of mental health services for children and the sport of women's boxing, among others. In addition to working at a Connecticut daily newspaper, she also wrote extensively for The New York Times, Rhode Island Monthly and many other publications. She is the author of three books.

She long shared her dedication to the journalistic principal of giving voice to the voiceless with her University of Connecticut students. She is a retired journalism professor from that institution.

She has a deep appreciation for history, with all its complexities, and enjoys helping to bring the past light for contemporary audiences.

She lives in her native Connecticut, near the shoreline she loves, with her beloved cats and dog.

What people are saying

A fascinating portrait ... the author has meticulously researched his background, varied interests, family intrigue and his contributions. Through her conversational writing, MacDonald quickly draws the reader in so you can imagine the era in which Plant lived and see the changes he brought to the New London area.
